Sparkling Crystal Feathers Project

I love how this project looks, but I am slightly confused by the directions. Here is my problem: I don't understand Step 1 and Step 6. If I know I'm going to be adding 7 cm of chain at the end.. it seems to me that I could just measure 7 cms from the end of the wire and place a bead stopper there.

I'm sure that I'm misunderstanding something. If you can answer my question I'd be grateful. If you don't understand my question ;-) -- please write and I will try to explain in a better way. Thank you so much for sharing your work.

Best,
Allie

Hi Allie,
Thank you for your question. I will try to answer it the best way I can.

The reason you use the full length of beading wire (the length you want the necklace to have) in step one and attach the clasp to it, is because you make the necklace on a bust, instead of flat. To get the drape right, you need to attach a clasp in order to have the necklace hanging on the bust. You also need to be able to remove excess crystals and crimp beads if you have strung on too many, and to do that you need to remove the clasp again, as you do in step 6.

In step 6, you remove the clasp and cut off the excess beading wire (from the end of the crystal feathers and to the clasp, the 7 cms). You replace the wire with the chains, and then add the clasp again, this time to the chain end.

You do of course not have to add the chains. You can use the beading wire for the full length of the necklace. In that case you can leave it as it is, or string on crystal bicones. But, if you have strung too many bicones with crimp beads in between, you need to take the clasp off to remove the unused crimp beads, and then attach it again.

Another option is to continue adding crystal feathers all the way to the back of the necklace. In that case you do not have to remove the clasp.

I hope this answers your question, if not lët me know, and I will try to explain it better. I wish you luck and a happy Easter holiday.

All the best!

Anne Cecilie
